studio MĀLS* –

is a space for ceramics with love for minimal yet delicate aesthetics. Founded in 2014 by maker Nata Pestune to slow down, connect and create beautiful and meaningful objects for daily use.

Every single piece is made by hand, mostly using traditional technique of throwing on a potters wheel.

Having lived in China for almost 2 years, studying its language, culture and art, this is where it all started. The city I lived in, surrounded by tea plantations, practicing drinking tea and visiting teahouses everyday, inspired my first objects: tiny in size teapots.

Now, main focus is on objects for the tabletop, from plates and cups to vases and flower frogs. I carry profound appreciation for asian art, philosophy, aesthetics and incorporate it into my work.

Using stoneware and porcelain as main material, I work within several collections, sometimes playing around and introducing new colors through clay and glazes, creating one of a kind pieces.

Center of attention for me is finding fusion between beauty of blandness (or simplicity) and function. Colors are reduced to a minimum, letting shape and natural shade of clay present itself and quietly interact with the environment it is placed into.
